As Clerk and Recorder, he remains focused on enhancing access to government services, increasing election security, and building trust through forward-thinking solutions and strategic partnerships.
Under Steve's leadership, El Paso County launched Colorado's first program to verify the accuracy of voter rolls using advanced credit data, a model now being studied across the state, and has been implemented as law in several states. He also spearheaded the modernization of all 44 county ballot drop boxes and made El Paso the first county in Colorado to livestream security camera footage from those locations, setting a new standard for election transparency.
To further strengthen public confidence, Steve introduced a first in the state interactive GIS platform for real-time voter registration and election data. This online tool has earned national recognition for advancing both accessibility and accountability in elections.
